WOMEN’S VILLAGES IN SAMBURU

PEAK has been working with three women’s’ villages in the Archers Post area of Samburu since 2010.  Founded by women seeking to escape physical and sexual violence and female genital mutilation, Unity Village, Nangida Village, and Namnyak Village provide safe haven for many women in that area. Our work has focused on providing access to clean water, as well as educational opportunities for their children, including high school and college scholarships for more than thirty young Samburu.

In our time in this pastoral, relatively indigenous community, we have come to realize that the women in these villages want the same thing that we all want for our children – a better future, quality education, and the opportunity to pursue a career that will provide for their families as well as their community. It continues to be inspiring to see them thrive when given the chance to continue their education.
